Unlock PDF
Remove a known password from a PDF and download a genuinely unencrypted copy, entirely in your browser.
About Unlock PDF
Unlock PDF creates an unencrypted copy of a password-protected PDF when you supply a valid password and the document’s encryption method is supported. It is useful when you already have access to a document but need a copy that can be opened without re-entering the password, or want to use it in a PDF tool that cannot accept encrypted input.
This tool does not recover forgotten passwords or try combinations. Select the protected document, enter the known password and run the unlock operation. A download is offered only after the output is checked as unencrypted. Keep the original if you still need password protection, and consider who should have access to the unlocked copy before sharing it.
How to use Unlock PDF
- Choose the protected file
Upload a password-protected PDF of up to 50 MB.
- Enter its password
Type the known password into PDF password. Use the visibility control only if you need to check it.
- Unlock
Select the unlock action and wait for processing. If the password is rejected, check it and try again.
- Save the copy
Download the unlocked PDF after success and open it to confirm you have the expected document.
Example: An accessible document copy
You receive a protected statement and its password separately. After opening it successfully, use the same password here to create an unencrypted copy for a local document-management workflow.
How it works
The selected PDF bytes and supplied password are passed to a dedicated browser worker. The worker uses a local PDF toolkit to read supported encryption and create output without that encryption. The browser then checks the result before offering a download. This separates a successful decrypt-and-export operation from an attempt that only appears to have finished but did not produce an unencrypted document.
A browser worker is code running on your device, not a remote server. Each unlock attempt creates its own worker, and it is terminated when the attempt finishes or is cancelled. An incorrect password, unsupported encryption, unreadable file or failed output verification produces an error instead of a downloadable result. The password input is cleared when processing starts; if the attempt fails, re-enter the correct password for another attempt.
When is this useful?
- Keep a password-free copy of a document you can already access.
- Prepare a supported encrypted PDF for merging or watermarking.
- Avoid repeated password entry in an authorized local workflow.
Things to know
- A valid password is required; this is not password recovery.
- The PDF must be no larger than 50 MB and use a supported security method.
- Removing encryption creates an unprotected copy. Signed or complex documents should be checked in a PDF viewer after export.
Privacy & processing
The file and password are passed to a worker in your browser for local decryption. They are not submitted to a ToolMyth processing server. The password field is cleared on submission and the worker is terminated when the attempt ends.
Frequently asked questions
Can this recover a password I forgot?
No. You must provide a valid password; the tool does not brute-force or recover passwords.
What if my PDF is already unencrypted?
The tool reports that it is not password-protected and makes no changes.
Why is there no download after an error?
A download is created only when the output has been verified as unencrypted. Incorrect passwords and unsupported files do not produce a result.
Why did the password field become empty?
It is cleared when you submit an attempt. Re-enter the password if you need to retry.
